You are warmly invited to worship with us at Church of the Ascension.
We are a loving, Christ-centered community seeking to grow in faith, serve others, and honor the dignity of every human being.
Services & Liturgy
8:00 am- Contemplative Service
The 8:00 service uses an order of worship in which there is no music. The ambiance of the old stone church and the quiet of the service allow those who attend time to meditate on the word.
10:30 am - Family Friendly Service
This service follows an order of worship which includes music, with the choir, organist, and congregation contributing a "joyful sound". The children of the parish also participate in these services monthly by providing a song, serving on the altar, as well as being greeters and readers.
Children & Families
Children’s Sunday School meets during the 10:30 AM service from September through May. During the summer months, church school takes a break, but children are always welcome in worship.
Fellowship
Following the 10:30 service, we gather for coffee hour and fellowship in St. Joseph’s Hall—a time to connect, share, and build relationships.
Who We Are
Church of the Ascension, which sits contentedly on the corner of Second Avenue and West Street in Parkesburg, lovely as it is, is only a well-ordered pile of stone. It is not the church. The church is created, its body fed, nourished, and strengthened each time people gather for Worship, Education, Meetings, Activities and Fun. Thus sustained and renewed, the “church” returns to the larger community as Christ’s body here on earth, with eyes able to see with compassion, feet upon which to go about doing good, and hands capable of holding, healing, and blessing. This rhythm of receiving, of being loved without condition, and of giving to the world, one person at a time, is the rhythm of life and is the heartbeat of Ascension.
