PCCO Coat Drive – CLEAN OUT THE CLOSET & SHARE THE WARMTH!
Once again, we are collecting coats for our upcoming Coat Giveaway. PCCO is asking for new or gently used coats, boots, gloves, mittens, scarves, and hats. We will gather them downstairs in the church, and they are due by Sunday, October 15th. They will be delivered later that week to Impact Church for distribution the following weekend. Many, many families in our area benefit from this project.
PCCO Backpack Collection
We surpassed our goal for Ascension and donated NINETEEN backpacks for the kids at The Point. The backpacks were varied in color and design, for elementary, middle, and high school students, and are sure to be appreciated by the students who will be choosing one this week. Also, the donations of school supplies were overwhelming. All kinds that were requested – pens, pencils, water bottles, hand sanitizer, notebooks, and highlighters – showed up in abundance. The giant plastic bin was overflowing! THANK YOU ONE AND ALL for bringing in backpacks, supplies, or donating generously to the cause. The kids will get a good start for their new school year!
Dinner at The Point
Many hands made light work. And, it is a good thing when there are 10 dozen ears of corn to husk! Thanks to Jay, Melissa, Walt, Lauren, Barb and Dene, that job was accomplished on Sunday after coffee hour. Patricia was duly initiated and washed at least 100 big potatoes. The fresh fruit salad was the combined efforts of Jule Ann, Marilyn, Tyler and Beth. We prepared for 85 teens and staff.
Randy was the lead chef, preparing the chicken with his secret recipe with lemon, vinegar, garlic, rosemary and who knows what else. Randy had the ovens filled with baked potatoes and the stovetop with 5 pots of corn. Most of the Sunday crew ran support and Rob and Rachel joined us, too.
Father Steve was our encourager, making sure everyone felt a part of the process, part of the team. He gathered us in prayer before we served the meal. Then, one of the students said grace before they sat down to eat.
The comfort food paid off! We got lots of good feedback from a very polite group of kids and staff.
Later, all of us from the kitchen sat down and ate together, too, in the same room as the kids had eaten. But somehow it was noticeably quieter this time around! Clean-up followed with take-home boxes for many children and staff.
God bless all of you who donated money and much of the of the food or helped in any way with this effort.

How to Create the Beloved Community
In our Baptismal Covenant (Prayer Book page 304), we vow to "respect the dignity of every human being" and to "seek and serve Christ, loving our neighbor as ourselves." These vows are not a one-time pledge, but a daily evaluation we should do with our actions, looking to see how the ways we interact with those around us both helps to create as well as hinders the formation of the Beloved Community that Jesus sought to build here on earth.
