Lent and Easter Activities As we approach Lent and Easter we want to make you aware of two activities that will be enjoyable and spiritually rewarding - the annual Lent Madness during Lent and the reading of Luke and Acts during Lent and Easter. The Lent Madness is modeled on the March Madness College Basketball tournament and is sponsored by Forward Movement. Thirty-two Saints, both ancient and modern are paired up in a single-elimination bracket. The sixteen winners in the 1st round are then paired in the 2nd round and so on until the winner is awarded the Golden Halo. The whole activity is carried out on-line at www.lentmadness.org . The voting for each pair in open for 24 hours. You can see how the votes are going after you vote and then see the final results the next morning. We have put up a big poster in St. Joseph’s Hall downstairs that shows how the brackets are set for the 1st round. There is also the booklet, Saintly Scorecard there that gives the biographies of each of the Saints in this year’s contest. The second activity, also sponsored by Forward Movement’s Forward Day by Day, the Episcopal Church and the Good Book Club, will provide daily scripture readings following Luke and Acts, companion books that take us from the birth of Jesus to the birth of the early church. The reading from Luke will begin on Sunday, February 11th and go thru to Easter Saturday. The readings from the Acts of the Apostles will begin on Easter Sunday and continue thru until Pentecost. Each daily reading is usually a half a chapter. Free copies of Forward Day by Day are in the basket at the back of the church. Additional resources can be found at www.goodbookclub.org .
